What this section tests
The official CMAT structure assigns 25 objective questions to Logical Reasoning. Use broad topic families for preparation while remembering that the Faculty does not promise one identical mix every year.
Core practice families
Series and patterns
Check differences, ratios, alternating rules, positions and repetitions. Test the simplest consistent rule before choosing an option.
Conditions and arrangements
Translate each rule into a short symbol or diagram. Place fixed information first and keep possible cases separate.
Directions and relationships
Draw arrows, a small family tree or a position grid. Do not solve a spatial relationship only in your head when a ten-second sketch removes ambiguity.
Classification and analogy
State the relationship between the first pair before looking at answer choices. Choose the option that preserves the same relationship, not merely a related topic.
An original mini example
Series: 3, 6, 12, 24, ?. Each term doubles, so the next term is 48. The useful habit is naming the rule and checking it across every transition.

The constraint-table method
- List the entities.
- Convert every condition into a short note.
- Place fixed conditions before flexible ones.
- Test answer choices against all conditions.
- Reject any option that breaks even one required rule.
Review mistakes by cause
Separate rule-reading errors, diagram errors, unsupported assumptions and time pressure. Redraw the problem cleanly and explain the decisive rule. This builds a method you can reuse.
