TU CMAT syllabus: the documented exam structure

The source is a programme curriculum, not a newly issued 2026 question paper. It names the broad areas but does not give a detailed entrance topic list or a guaranteed allocation of questions within each area. Therefore, the preparation topics below are MKS study recommendations, not an official exhaustive syllabus.

Verbal Ability: understand the whole sentence

Build vocabulary in context, grammar and reading comprehension together. Learning a word’s translation is useful, but you should also know how it behaves inside a sentence.

Suggested practice includes:

• Finding the main idea and supporting evidence in a short passage.
• Inferring a word’s meaning from nearby information.
• Checking subject–verb agreement, tense, articles and prepositions.
• Comparing answer choices that differ in meaning or grammatical fit.

After a reading question, underline the evidence for your answer. If an option sounds plausible but the passage does not support it, explain that difference. This builds a repeatable reading method instead of dependence on guessing.

Quantitative Ability: connect concepts to quantities

Start with fractions, percentages, ratios and averages. Move into simple equations and practical problems involving price, time, work or distance once the foundations are stable. Tables and charts are useful for practising accurate extraction of numbers and units.

For example, a notebook costs NPR 240 after a 20% discount. The sale price represents 80% of the original price, so the original price is 240 ÷ 0.80 = NPR 300. Adding 20% to NPR 240 gives the wrong result because it uses the reduced price as the base.

This is an original teaching example, not an official past question. In your notebook, write the base quantity beside every percentage calculation. A clear setup often saves more time than memorising a shortcut.

Logical Reasoning: make the conditions visible

Practise sequences, classifications, directions, relationships and simple ordering problems. Use a small diagram or table when several conditions interact.

Suppose three students present in order. Asha presents before Binod, and Binod presents before Chandra. Writing A → B → C makes the forced order clear. With more people, add each condition separately and check that your final arrangement satisfies all of them.

Do not assume an unstated relationship. Distinguish “could be true” from “must be true”, and test a proposed answer against every condition. These habits matter across many reasoning question styles.

General Awareness: study facts with context

Build a manageable reading habit across Nepal, public institutions, geography, business, the economy and significant world events. These are suggested preparation categories; they do not predict what will appear in a particular paper.

Keep a dated record with four columns: topic, fact, source and review date. For changing information, such as an officeholder or a policy announcement, record when the statement was true. Use original institutional publications where possible and check a headline against the full report.

Turn selected notes into short questions. Explaining why an answer is correct helps distinguish durable understanding from recognition of a familiar phrase.

Which rules still need confirmation?

The official sources checked for this guide do not establish the current undergraduate test duration, calculator policy, negative marking or a fixed number of reading-comprehension questions. We have therefore not presented common claims about those points as confirmed rules.

Before using an exact timer or deciding an exam strategy, check the applicable notice, admit-card instructions and authorised campus guidance. Use the FoM notice board as your starting point. Turn the syllabus into a weekly checklist

For each area, choose one small skill, attempt a few fresh questions, and record the cause of every mistake. Use labels such as concept, vocabulary, misreading and calculation. Study the cause, then reattempt a similar task later without the solution.

As your accuracy improves, mix question types so you learn to choose methods independently. Use timed practice to observe your pace, while keeping any chosen practice duration clearly separate from a verified official time limit.
